Tonight’s 6pm Class is online only. 3/26/2024

UPDATE: NO 6pm class tonight. I’m sorry everyone, technology isn’t working so great for me either today. Bummer! Literal rain check for next week. Have a good rest!

Tuesday class will happen on this snowy messy day, but we will get together virtually. I’m hoping that this is less of a headache for those of you wanting to save energy for practice, not a white knuckled drive to the studio before and after. ❄️

The link for the 6pm class is below. Thanks, Hiromi Yokoi for providing the tech for tonight. See you on the web!

FEBRUARY 2024!

It’s almost here! I’m popping in to say that I will be in India for the month of February, 2024. I have secured some alternative teachers for Tuesday nights at Nokomis Yoga, so check out the Class Offerings 2024 page for details. Most things will stay same.

I will be traveling and settling in over the last days of January, so there will be NO CLASS ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 30TH. Take a rest!

JANUARY 2024

NEW MOON THURSDAY 1/11/2024

FULL MOON THURSDAY 1/25/2024

It’s a new year, Don’t Panic. I’m working out the loose ends for my upcoming trip in February. Minnesota has not been very seasonal this holiday season. A lot of hurry up and wait, even now. I am thankfully rested and keeping on top of the same old same old, so far. : )

this Sunday at 3pm, I’ll be doing a first: a Second Sunday Chat/presentation on Tarot. It will be at the Dow Building in St. Paul, the Custom Cat Purrniture one, in the Midway area. This is made possible by Ellie Wannemacher, of Sama Wellness. Register link here. Most of the material I will talk about is from Mary K Greer’s book Tarot For Your Self.

Otherwise, lots and lots of coffee happening, I am attempting to get some knit projects done before I go, and I still can’t decide which books I’ll want to bring along for the trip. More on who/what/when for subs and doings for the Tuesday Night Led Primary Series Class. We may even try a Mysore style session just for fun. Watch this space!

SPOOKY SEASON POST

NEW MOON: Saturday 10/14- solar eclipse

FULL MOON: Saturday 10/28- lunar eclipse

Howdy, all,

it’s been more than a minute since I have last visited. So much has gone on, I have not had enough time or attention to check in with the latest news around here. Here’s the bullet journal version:

  1. 1. July was Mysuru application time, Sharath Jois has just commenced a shorter season this year, in Karnataka, India. Most of it is for 2 or 3 month stays, except February so I applied for that. (I don’t want to quit my job yet! Not if I don’t have to. 😁) besides, then I would have 6 months to plan and all that. Well, I got in! So I will return for the month of February and then see what I want to do with myself for the rest of 2024. ❤️ It’s about time . I’m not gonna worry about falling short for authorization, it’s the trips taken and things learned that’s most important. This also gives me something to look forward to in the New Year.
    2. I have stopped teaching Sunday Vinyasa at One Yoga. They are doing great! But one class per week seems to be my speed right now, and Tuesday nights at Nokomis Yoga are continuing. In fact it will be 2 years in November. I will also continue to sub for the One Yoga Mysore Program when I can, and visit to practice in person too.
    3. Slowly getting into the groove for Tarot again . Sometimes there’s not enough hours in the day. I’ve acquired a couple more decks over the summer and keeping things regular and simple seems to be the key. I am journaling daily so it is easier to sneak in some observations about what I’ve pulled for that day.
    4. and the oddball goes to…. Handstand drills. I’m obsessed! I don’t do more than a couple at a time on any given day but I can’t wait till standing on my hands doesn’t feel terrifying and awkward. I want to build some strength and coordination that I’ve NEVER had so this is more for fun, and confidence, not nailing postures.

JULY 2023

Recent morning’s coffee mug. I’ve kept this as part of my morning ritual. I’ve gone back to a spoonful of ghee and coconut oil in my coffee since it seems to agree with me. I had previously guessed that I wouldn’t need it in the summer months(it’s vata pacifying, in my book- heavy, rich, unctuous), something that buffers the wintertime properties. Nowadays, it is satisfying and satiating for me to sip and I don’t get rushed or burnt out on it. Easy does it!

Happy Canada Day! (July 1).

FULL MOON: Monday 7/3/2023

NEW MOON: Monday 7/17/2023

July 4th is a Tuesday this year. No 6 pm class at Nokomis Yoga on that day. Go be independent. : )

Other news: I will be subbing for Phoebe K at One Yoga, on the first two Sundays of the month- 7/2 and 7/9. See you in the Mysore Program! Sunday’s 11 am class has sorta morphed into a Primary Series trial or short form format, there’s less Vinyasa improv and more exploring what’s established in the sequence. This seems more supportive to an end goal of a more regular Primary Series led class at One Yoga, and also introduces the Ashtanga Fundamentals to anyone that might like to try it. Sunday is still pretty casual in tone since this is a drop in class and so must be taught to whoever shows up that day. Sophistication levels vary, and that’s ok. ❤️

I will also sub at Nordeast Yoga this month- 7/19, a Wednesday. It’s been a year since I’ve done this 5:30 pm class, so it will be fun to return in the summertime.

What else? Ann Arbor trip was postponed. To make lemonade out of that lemon, I decided to be a yoga tourist in my own backyard, of a sort. It really was a trip, to be able to practice with other people, like I used to. I started journaling and making hats again. Tried to eat, drink and sleep more. ( 2 out of 3 ain’t bad…). I have yet to review my 2023 goals, as I was too busy recovering in January to have too many ideas about the future. I think my plans for now are definitely not about willpower only. I’ve got to surrender into what is, before I can build on that.

June 2023

Already?! Here’s the current news: No Tuesday class at Nokomis Yoga on 6/13. I will be traveling! This feels like PeeWee’s Big Ashtanga Adventure right now, I haven’t been on a plane or gone anywhere farther than Stillwater MN for 3 years. Now I get to visit Ashtanga Yoga Ann Arbor, and everything around it. Maybe see what Detroit is like on a Saturday.
No, I did not make it to Miami last month but I did get to participate in the live-streamed led classes that Sharath Jois taught. I also was able to do David Swenson’s led Primary Series class and an arm balancing workshop at the end of April. (after a root canal, 48 hours before. ❤️). Both teachers really brought it- neither one avoided the realities of age, both are excellent models of devotion and interest in keeping this practice alive.
My newest interest: mobility practices. I just learned about the Wall Hang. (Where have you been all my life?) Try googling it. It will change your life, and your shoulders. 😜

FULL MOON SATURDAY 6/3

NEW MOON SATURDAY 6/18

April 2023

Attempting Intermediate Series at the crack-of-stoopid on a weekday. This part of the sequence looks easy and almost relaxing, what a surprise! 😂

FULL MOON: Wednesday 4/5

NEW MOON: Wednesday 4/19

I’m looking forward to some rest on Wednesday, we’ll see how much I get. I’m back to short & sweet on Tuesdays for practice because I need to save some energy for the rest of the week. It sorta works.😁

This month marks the soft 2 year anniversary of my early morning practices. I’ve learned a lot in this lonely time. My practice seems to bottom out if I do more than 1.5 hours(fair enough!)so now the conundrum is what counts most for each day. I was going to implement some strength drills, but don’t have much room/energy left for those, either- I’m going to keep some very simple things like planks and L-sits because these can be done within the practice sequence easily.

I’ve also got to soft pedal at times because I’ve got newer things to work with daily- back bending is something I don’t want to lose through neglect(for lack of a better word)and I’ve been attempting locking my legs behind my head more often. Hips and shoulders deserve greater awareness because I don’t want to trash them by pushing too hard. I’ve got an 8 hour day at work ahead of me to boot. Baby steps, and try again tomorrow. 🦥

April news: I signed up for David Swenson’s Saturday classes later on this month, and I look forward to subbing for Phoebe Krecji in One Yoga’s Mysore Program. I’m not going to make it to Miami this year to participate in Sharath’s long awaited world tour(also late April/early May)but I’ve discovered I may have incentive to go to Miami Springs and visit AshtangaPhulla. More on that if it comes to be. 🪩
